Nutrition for the New Year

As the New Year Approaches, many people come up with resolutions to get healthy. As we start these new workout routines, what do we need to know about nutrition…

Are Carbohydrates the Enemy?

No, never! Carbohydrates are the preferred fuel source for the body. This does not give free rein to consume sugar all day long. Consuming complex carbohydrates from vegetables, fruits, and whole grain foods are the type of fuel you are looking for!

Do I need to load up on Protein shakes?

Protein is essential for the growth and repair of muscles. Truth is that you are more than likely consuming plenty of protein from your meals, and do not need to spend money on protein shakes. These shakes are often loaded will carbohydrates and chemicals that may be harmful or cause weight gain.

Should I cut fat out of my diet?

Fat is essential for several bodily functions. It is a source of fuel and provides protection for our bones and nerves. There are several nutrients that require fat to do their job.

What should I focus on?

Eating a well-balanced diet that includes all food groups. Do not skip meals. Limit added sugars (like soda), fat (like butter on bread), and sodium (from the salt shaker).
